I have the BEST job! I get up in the morning, walk off my back deck, and I am in the most phenomenal office in the world! Birds are singing new songs I’ve never noticed before. They change depending on the time of day. Every tree in the yard and garden is packed with gorgeous blooms-apple, crab apple, pear, cherry, peach and even the trees we call “junk trees”–you know the ones. They grow in the fence rows without being planted. Even they have the most beautiful presentation of booms.
It is raining this morning. The rain washes the dust and dirt off everything and allows the colors to be vibrant again. And the smell!…I love the smell of spring after a good rain. Everything is so fresh and vibrant and beautiful. The lilacs are blooming today. Add a few snowdrops to those and a couple of stray tulips and what a beautiful arrangement. I even have a couple stems of bleeding hearts that will add some color and texture to that arrangement. Having worked on the main growing season flowers this year and getting the garden into really good shape as well as working on some curb-appeal, I have neglected the spring blooming flowers. In the fall, I will be planting some of those. Tulips and daffodils to add to the snowdrops and lilacs. The weekend before Mother’s Day is when the lilacs seem to open their blooms.
The lawn always seems to need mowing. Got it done yesterday…even between and around some things that don’t always need mowing, but did yesterday. The clouds are filtering the light this morning so everything looks vibrant. The greens especially are really vivid.
I’m getting close to being able to open. Usually I open in June, but this year I may open earlier. Daisies are about to start opening, and there a few other flowers that will be coming to join them. Even if there aren’t many flowers, the garden is such a peaceful place to drink a cup of coffee or just wander. Early seeds need to be planted this week…even if they are a little late. Then come the early plants. I need to get those hardened off and in the garden as well. All in a day’s work.
