Winter having settled in, things have slowed to a crawl in the garden. I have to take the dog out for a walk a couple of times every day, so I do get into the garden, but with the wind blowing from the north, I don’t linger very long on these single-digit-temperature days.
But planning for the 2022 garden season goes on. Flower plugs have been ordered, flower seeds that could be saved from the garden are collected, cleaned, and waiting in their little brown envelopes for their respective planting date. Seed catalogs have been perused, lists have been made and orders for flower seeds will be placed soon. I cut starts from the rosemary plants last fall and have had them growing in the grow room since early November. I trimmed them this morning to make them bush out a little more using the trimmings on my eggs this morning and on the baked pork chops we had at supper tonight. They are doing well. 130+ of the 144 I started are going to be potted up soon. Some for sale and some for the garden.
Speaking of “for sale”, I am planning to sell a limited number of spring bedding plants this spring. I have a really awesome paste tomato that I have saved seed from for a few years, that has developed into a huge, nearly blemish-free meaty paste tomato that I am potting up for sale as well as green and red pepper plants.
So even on these frigid days of winter, “gardening” goes on. I just do it inside.
